Our smart water metering solutions provide actionable intelligence that enables customers to optimize the delivery and use of water, maximize revenue and reduce waste. As the Engineering Manager of our CAE department, my team focuses on providing Utility metering solutions, such as water meters and accessories for the customer. How long have you or has your company been a member of WiM?

I've been a WiM member for about two years.

Have you attended any WiM programs or events? If so, which ones?

Yes, locally I’ve participated as a panelist in a discussion hosted by Badger Meter, and I attended the Headshots and Open House event at BMO Harris Bank. Nationally, I’ve attended the WiM Winter Leadership Conference 2023 and WiM Summit 2023.

What do you like most about being a member of WiM?

I enjoy networking and collaborating with individuals who have similar background and interests as myself. This community has been very helpful as I navigate my career development.

What do you enjoy most about the manufacturing industry?

What I most enjoy about the manufacturing industry is being a part of the technological advancements. I like developing innovative designs that creatively solve problems.

What woman in history has inspired you and why?

Michelle Obama comes to mind when asked this question… She is a perfect example of being her authentic self, unapologetically. I strive to wholeheartedly lead in the same manner. Being a woman in the manufacturing industry, it could be easy to dim your light or not speak up. I want to continue to break stigma by bringing my whole self to work and leading by example to help pave the way for future minority engineers.

What passion or purpose gets you up in the morning?

My purpose is my family and livelihood. My passion is helping and developing others into the career positions they desire. I also have a sweet spot for youth development. I volunteer at various high schools teaching students about STEM careers.

How do you stay motivated in your personal and professional life?

The best motivation is my family, not only my immediate family but also my siblings and extended family. I want them to see someone who looks like them and comes from the same background as them working hard and being successful. That is the only motivation I need.

What's your biggest professional accomplishment to date?

My biggest professional accomplishment to date is the re-engagement of my current team. When I started at Badger Meter, my team did not trust me nor my guidance, the team was mature and everyone had been in their role for a long time, therefore my ideas felt “out-of-the-box” or unnecessary. Sprinkle the pandemic on top and a change in director leadership; this was a recipe for disaster. However, I never gave up, I worked with everyone individually to understand their needs, and adjusted as needed. Now my team functions like a well-oiled machine. They respect and trust me and my judgement. The success of this was a great feeling.

What's the best piece of business advice that you've ever received?

“You don’t have to know it all, but you do need to know who to go to for help.”

“Have a mentor, meet with your mentor and follow through on commitments.”

Do you have any tips or advice for new WiM members?

Get involved. Take advantage of the opportunity to meet and network with other women and allies in the industry.

What is Badger Meter doing to create an inclusive atmosphere or support women in the industry?

We are in the process of launching our first employee resource group, Women in Manufacturing. We are also a part of various national organizations like WiM, which provides tools and resources to women in the industry.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Bowling, doing puzzles and traveling.

What's your go-to comfort food?

Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and dill pickles.

What is the best trip you have ever been on and why?

New Orleans! The city is rooted in so much culture. The music, food, art and cocktails are unmatched. I love it there and visit frequently.
